SANTA had his hands full when underprivileged children and staff of Holiday Inn Resort Penang released 121 balloons carrying Christmas wishes into the air to mark the festive season.
“I think we got the message across,” smiled general manager Simon Douthett as he let fly the last wish.
The colourful release of red and green balloons yesterday was the finale of the resort’s Santa Balloons project.
Launched early this month, guests were invited to contribute RM10 to charity and given a card to write a wish to Santa for the less fortunate.
The cards were then stuck onto the balloons.
“The most touching wish we received was from the child of a guest who wrote that he believed Santa was real and hoped that he would send presents to all the children,” said Douthett, who added that he was heartened by the generosity of his guests.
The project raised RM1,212 for the Shammah Children’s Home in Butterworth.
Home caretaker Josephine Augus-tine, who received the cash donation, said the gift was timely because the home was preparing its 22 children for school next year.
“We are always glad for cash donations at this time of the year. This will help us prepare our children well for the next school year,” she added.
The resort, which has celebrated Christmas with the home for three years, also treated all the children from the home to a special buffet spread prepared for little hands and with extra desserts.
