A TOTAL of 18,642 landowners in the Kubang Pasu district have failed to settle their quit rent arrears over the years amounting to RM3,969,456.85.
Kubang Pasu District Land Office assistant land administrator (revenue) Shahir Salleh said errant landowners, who refuse to settle the arrears, risk having their land confiscated under the National Land Code 1965.
“We view the matter seriously, and would not hesitate to take legal action,” he said.
Shahir said the Land Office had confiscated two plots of ‘high profile’ land this year due to unsettled quit rent.
“One involved RM338,082.40 in quit rent arrears and the other RM1.8mil,” he told a press conference recently.
However, he refused to reveal further details about the two cases.
Shahir said the highest amount of arrears for an individual in the district was RM40,402 which had not been settled for over 12 years.
On the state-level Ops Tunggak launched in October, aimed at collecting quit rent arrears, Shahir said the district’s first phase would focus on owners with over RM5,000 in unsettled arrears.
