THE season of goodwill has arrived with the lighting up of a nine-metre Christmas tree at Straits Quay in Penang.
As a choir sang Christmas carols, the tree was lit up, signalling the start of Straits Quay’s Golden Christmas By-The-Sea promotion which will be held until Jan 1.
The Eastern & Oriental Berhad’s group hospitality & lifestyle director Michael Saxon said Christmas was a time for families and friends to get together.
“This is the spirit we hope to promote to those who come to the mall,” he said at the tree-lighting ceremony on Saturday.
Among the fun-filled activities are the Jingle Ball Challenge which will be held daily from Nov 30 to Jan 1 next year at the Straits Court between noon and 9pm.
Those who want to showcase their artistic skills should take part in the Go Green Snowman Making Contest on Dec 8.
Interested participants are required to create their snowman using recyclable materials.
Other activities include the Miss Santarina Contest, Christmas Parade and Strolling Minstrels.
Shoppers who spend a minimum of RM100 in a single receipt at any outlet in the mall will be eligible to redeem a special Christmas gift while those who spend a minimum of RM200 in a single receipt are entitled to a lucky draw where 10 shoppers will each bring home ‘Golden Rewards’ worth RM2,000.
