Bundles of festive joy

Sheer happiness: Ngumezi giving his wife a peck on her cheek as she cuddles their baby boy.

IT was a wonderful celebration for Elizabeth Anthony Dass, who was blessed with a healthy baby boy born on Deepavali Day.

The administrative director, who delivered her firstborn in Lam Wah Ee Hospital in Penang at 12.33pm, expressed her excitement as she had never expected the baby to be born on the auspicious day.

The 36-year-old and her Nigerian husband Pastor Alex Ngumezi, also 36, named their baby, Light Alex.

“He (the baby) is the Light of Life, and we hope he will bring light to everything else in the world,” said the elated father at the hospital in Jalan Masjid Negeri yesterday, adding that baby Light weighed 2.88kg.

The overjoyed family hopes the baby will bring good fortune and bless the home.

Some 11 hours earlier at the same hospital, teacher Teh Soo Bin, 30, delivered a 2.95kg baby boy at 1.24am.

Teh and her husband Khor Eng Kim, 32, an IT engineer, were surprised as their firstborn was supposed to be due on Nov 9 but he “waited” to be born on this special day.

“Our precious bundle of joy will be named Isaac Khor, and all we want is for the baby to grow up healthy,” said Teh.

At press time, checks with eight hospitals and maternity clinics on the island showed only three babies were delivered on the auspicious day.
