WHEN Melvin Chan became the chief operating officer of Fung Wong Biscuit on Jalan Hang Lekir, Kuala Lumpur, the business was officially passed on to a fourth generation.
The history of Fung Wong can be traced back to Guangdong, China in 1909. Meaning “King of Phoenixes” in English, the brand came to Malaysia in 1946 as a road side stall in Jalan Hang Lekir. By the 1970s, the Chan family had saved enough to buy over the shop, where the company’s headquarters now stands.
