CLOSED-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed in all elevators in Rifle Range in Penang as part of efforts to deter would-be criminals.
Kebun Bunga assemblyman Jason Ong Khan Lee said the first batch of the CCTVs was installed in Block C two weeks ago while the rest will be installed in stages, except for Block J.
The block has to wait after the upgrading of its lifts is com- pleted.
“There are three lifts for each block in the Rifle Range, and the new CCTVs for the 27 lifts cost about RM20,000,” he said.
There were 98 CCTVs that were set up previously, but they were not enough to prevent crime.
This is following a snatch case that caused the death of widow Tan Kim Chuan.
The incident happened near Block J this July.
Ong praised the Rifle Range village security and development (JKKK) committee on their cooperation with the police in solving crime cases with the help of CCTV.
“For example, they spent hours checking CCTV video footage to help in the police investigation of the senseless death of Tan,” he said.
Ong who is the Bukit Bendera PKR division chief, was speaking at a Free Hair Cut Programme which was held at Dewan MPPP at Padang Tembak on Tuesday.
It was the fifth edition organised by PKR with help from the Passion School of Hair Design.
