MORE than 200 people walked, jogged and ran in the spirit of patriotism during the Merdeka Jogathon held at Selayang Stadium recently.

In fact, almost all the participants went back with prizes or minimum a goodie bag as there were RM5,000 worth or prizes given away during the run.

The top 20 finishers in each of the categories will received medals and certificates.

The run, held in conjunction with Malaysia Day, was jointly organised by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) and Residents Committee Zone Four. It had four categories — men’s Open, women’s Open, boys’ Under-18 and girls’ Under-18.

Batu Caves assemblyman Amirudin Shari flagged of the participants while MPS president Datuk Zainal Abidin A’ala gave away the prizes to the winners.

MPS councillor-cum-organising committee chairman A. Murugeshu the event was successful as Malaysians competed in the spirit of patriotism.

“This event is to encourage the public to take part in a healthy activity and socialise with each other.

“We were successful in instilling the spirit of camaraderie among Malaysians. It was the first time Residents Committee Zone Four is holding a jogathon,” said Murugeshu.
