FRU forced to use anti-riot equipment, inquiry told


KUALA LUMPUR: A Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) officer said the police had to use water cannons and tear gas on the crowd during the Bersih 3.0 rally when protesters broke the barricade at Dataran Merdeka.

FRU officer Asst Supt Alekzandra Dawan said his job was to get the crowd to disperse. When they did not do so after the water was sprayed on them, tear gas was used.
