LABIS: The government had been urged to boost the Federal route that connects Segamat and Yong Peng to enhance road safety.
Johor Huazong (The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia) president Datuk Lim Kah Chuan said despite a large allocation of public funds on upgrading the road in stages, it did little to road safety ratings.
“Most of the road users will know the road conditions when travelling on the Federal road, even those fast asleep would wake up when vehicles enter the road.
“Besides the high traffic volume that can contribute to road accidents, the uneven pavements also affects road safety.
“We hope the government will upgrade the road in Segamat and Yong Peng as soon as possible for the benefit of the people,” he said at the Labis Huazong 62nd anniversary celebration here recently.
Also present at the event were State Tourism and Domestic Trade committee chairman Hoo Seong Chang, who represented Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry deputy minister Datuk Chua Tee Yong, Tenang assemblyman Mohd Azahar Ibrahim and local community leaders.
Lim said the government had carried out several major developments in Segamat district in the last few years.
Among the projects, he said, was a four-lane road connecting Segamat and Tangkak, which is still under construction, as well as flood mitigation works.
“With the flood mitigation project, residents in Segamat are feeling more confident,” he said.
Another project that would help the economic development of the district is the Electrified Double Tracking Project (EDTP) from Gemas to Johor Baru.
“We thank the Mentri Besar for his concern for the people in ordering such projects to be carried out in the district.
“We strongly believe that such projects would increase connectivity between Segamat and neighbouring districts and towns which would help to further improve economic activities here,” he added.
