IT IS every petrolhead’s dream to be walking in the shoes of reigning Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel.
The two-time world champion was the youngest driver ever to win the World Drivers’ Championship and in the same year he helped Red Bull win the team’s first World Constructors’ Championship.
With such accolades it is no surprise that many would want to walk in his shoes.
Well, now you can. Geox, the official team partner for Red Bull Racing has opened its fourth outlet in Paradigm Mall, Kelana Jaya.
Founded in the 1990s, Geox has been growing at an exponential rate in major markets worldwide. The company founded by Mario Moretti Polegato designs andmakes stylish shoes that “breathe”.
The Geox brand name is a combination of the word “geo” (the Greek word for “earth”) and “x”, the letter/element symbolising the technology.
Today, Geox is the top player in Italy in classic and casual footwear and it can count on an increasing presence abroad.
The company recorded over 60% increase in net sales in major foreign markets, including Germany, France and Spain.
Geox has also been ranked as the number one footwear brand in Italy and number two worldwide in the lifestyle casual footwear segment by the specialised magazine, Shoe Intelligence in 2010.
The group is mainly active in the production and commercialisation in the medium to medium-high price range of footwear (86.7% of net sales as of March 31, 2012) and to a lesser extent of apparel (13.3% of net sales as of March 31, 2012).
The innovative idea of the Geox group consists in perforating shoes’ soles to allow feet to breathe.
The group’s activity is built around the patents, both nationally and internationally, for the technology in its shoes.
Closer to home, Geox opened its first store at Lot 10 shopping centre in the heart of the city in 2004.
To date, Geox has grown to five stores and 22 outlets in department stores, with 95% of the business focused in the Klang Valley. Geox Malaysia brand manager Sandy Kuan informed MetroBiz that the company is growing rapidly in Malaysia, with approximately 500 pairs of shoes sold per month in each outlet.
“Customers usually buy several pairs as this is a family brand. We have shoes for adults and kids with prices ranging from RM399 to RM1,299 for adults and RM229 to RM299 for kids,” said Kuan.
She further added that the brand plans to open five more outlets within the next five years.
“We are looking at potential expansion opportunities into Sabah and Sarawak, and other major cities around the peninsula. We also have 10,000 active Geox members (membership is given after spending RM600 on a single receipt),” she said.
The Geox group stands out for having identified, patented and implemented innovative and technological solutions that allow the combination of quality, breathability and impermeability through the use of special materials. The group has identified, elaborated and improved the methodology behind the creation of its products, protecting them with patents in Italy that were later extended internationally.
By improving and widening the initial patent, the Group has deposited more than 60 different patents originated by the company policy that aims at enhancing technological innovation.
