Students who sign up for walk will receive free movie tickets

A TOTAL of 2,300 movie tickets await secondary school students who sign up for the Penang Starwalk on a first- come, first-served basis courtesy of Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC).

Each student will receive a free movie ticket per entry when entries open from July 16.

GSC Gurney Plaza assistant cinema manager P. Karthigasan said the company had been supportive of the event as Penang Starwalk garners participants from different backgrounds, young and old, and brings them all together to take part in the healthy event.

“Participants will be able to share wonderful moments with their loved ones or their friends at the walk besides staying healthy.

“The free tickets are valid at any GSC cinema in Malaysia until November 17,’’ he said after presenting the tickets to The Star’s advertising sales and business development (north) senior manager Simone Liong at the cinema in Gurney Plaza yesterday.

Liong said school roadshows would be held in Penang starting July 16.

“Students could sign up for the event during the roadshows,” she said.

Also present were The Star’s advertising executive Leong Shir Mein and GSC Gurney Plaza marketing executive Lim Yee Lyn.

The walk will start at Penang Times Square on Sept 17.

Competition walkers will follow the same 10km route as last year but non-competition category participants will be taken on a 6km trail which passes through Weld Quay, Peranakan Museum, Kapitan Keling Mosque and Sri Maha Mariamman Temple.

Participants who complete the route within a two-hour time limit will be eligible for a lucky draw which promises attractive prizes.

School participants aged 13 and above will be issued with a certificate that will carry co-curriculum points.

To further encourage school entries, prizes will be given to the top three schools with the highest entries.

Registration fee is RM10 for non-competition walkers and RM15 for competition walkers.

The event is jointly organised by The Star and Penang Amateur Athletics Association and endorsed by the Penang Education Department and the Penang Municipal Council.

The public can register at Star Northern Hub in Bayan Lepas or the newspaper’s George Town office at 15, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling (9am-5.15pm on weekdays) or at Penang Times Square information counter, ground floor (10am-10pm daily).
