CANADIAN-born singer-actor Ramin Karimloo made a special appearance earlier this week at the JW Marriot Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, before the two-night An Evening With The Phantom concert that starts today at the same venue.
Karimloo gained international acclaim for playing the disfigured musical genius who terrorised the Paris Opera House in the West End staging of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic musical The Phantom Of The Opera.
At the recent meet-and greet-session, Karimloo said he was thrilled to perform at the lavish concert.
“The dinner concert will be one of my last performances associated with the Phantom of the Opera,” he said.
“Kuala Lumpur is such a great place to do it and I hope the distinguished guests will be entertained,” he said.
The 33-year-old of Iranian parentage added that it’s the third time he has been to the country. In April, he performed alongside Stephen Rahman-Hughes and Simon Bailey at the West End Stars In Concert at Istana Budaya.
Karimloo was not the only star at the An Evening With The Phantom media session. Australian opera singer Annalisa Kerriga, who is of Irish-Malaysian descent, was also part of the event.
Kerriga will play the role of Christine Daaé (the Phantom’s love interest) in the musical.
“I’m happy to be here and to be a part of such an esteemed production. I can’t wait to entertain the KL crowd,” she said.
The show’s executive producer Tiara Jacquelina of Enfiniti Vision Media Sdn Bhd said the grand ballroom of JW Marriott Hotel will be lavishly decorated to evoke the beautiful era of vintage Paris.
“It’s really such a rare opportunity for fans of theatre in Malaysia to be able to experience a performance of this calibre from the West End, featuring the original “phantom” himself, here in Kuala Lumpur.
“We have had such encouraging response for the dinner, mostly from corporations taking this opportunity to host their valued clients and business partners to a really elegant dinner and a world-class performance,” she said.
All tables are fully booked but interested parties can look forward for future gala events that will be organised by her team.
