Company’s love affair with event

LAFARGE Malayan Cement has been taking part in every Ipoh Starwalk since its inception nine years ago and is not about to stop the practice.

Kanthan plant manager K. Sekar said Ipoh Starwalk was special to Lafarge as the June 17 event fell on the same month as the company’s Health and Safety Month.

“As such, we would love to join Ipoh Starwalk, which is not only a fun-filled event but one that promotes a healthy lifestyle,” he said.

Sekar, who encourages his staff to exercise for at least five minutes before the start of each working day, said Lafarge had always supported its employees to take up sports activities.

“The company pays for their participation fee in Ipoh Starwalk as an incentive.

“The benefit is also extended to their family members and our contractors as well,” he added.

Purchasing executive Y.S. Young, 48, who has been with Lafarge for 28 years, has every reason to be excited.

The coming Ipoh Starwalk will be his ninth.

The father of two stays fit for the event by hiking up Bukit Bangkong in Chemor almost everyday without fail.

“I’ve had many good memories during Ipoh Starwalk with family members, colleagues and friends.

“Last year, we had the privilege of walking together with Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir,” he said.

Ipoh Starwalk 2012 is jointly organised by Star Publications (M) Bhd and the Ipoh City Council with the cooperation of the state government, Perak Athletic Association, Perak Education Department, state police, Malaysian Red Crescent Society, Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital and Rela.

It will be flagged at the Stadium Indera Mulia.

Each participant will get a t-shirt and goodie bag filled with interesting items from sponsors and contributors.

Those who complete the walk within the stipulated time frame will also get to take part in a lucky dip.

The main sponsors of this year’s event are YES, Genneva Syariah, AmBank, Demak, Canon, BP Healthcare, Indomie, Magnum 4D, Pallas, F&N, and Salonpas.
