Zakat paid so no need for income tax, court told

GEORGE TOWN: A former Penang Immigration Department director testified that it was “not necessary” to pay income tax on his wife’s business ventures as the couple had paid zakat for that income.

Abdul Rahman Harun, 53, who is on trial in the Sessions Court for possessing assets in excess of his earnings, said the extra income was not recorded on any income tax forms.
