JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested nine men including six Indonesians who are linked to a robbery syndicate operating actively in Kluang and Muar.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the officials initially raided a home in Ladang Bukit Benut in Kluang at around 3.30am on May 16 and managed to arrest the six Indonesians aged between 25 and 31 there.
“We also discovered three parangs, a sickle, seven mobile phones and tool used for breaking into homes such as screwdrivers, a metal cutter and gloves,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters during a press conference held at the police headquarters here recently.
“None of the suspects have previous criminal records but we believe that we have solved six robbery cases which occurred in Kluang and Segamat following the arrest of the group,” he said.
Relating to a separate case, DCP Mohd Mokhtar said police also nabbed three locals aged 25, 30 and 32 in Kuala Lumpur and Hulu Klang, Selangor, who were suspected to be involved in robbery case here.
“The men are suspects in a robbery case involving a mobile phone shop in Pekan Pagoh, Muar,” he said.
He added that following the arrest, police also seized a Toyota Camry, five parangs, 22 mobile phones, three laptops, watches and a purse.
“The three suspects have 11 past criminal records and some of them are related to robbery and drugs,” he said adding that the police believed they have solved 10 robbery cases in Muar, Seremban and Kuala Lumpur with the arrest of the men.
DCP Mohd Mokhtar said both cases would be investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail sentence of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
