THE Latin American Embassies in Malaysia are collaborating again with the Latin American Ladies Association of Malaysia to organise the fourth Latin American Festival on May 20.
The event will include a wide variety of music, dance, food, art, crafts and costumes from the 10 participating Latin American countries — Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
The festival is open to the public and will be held at Bb Park, Bukit Bintang from 11am to 6pm.
Each country will have a stand selling food and beverages, original handicraft as well as tourist information materials.
Mexico’s ambassador to Malaysia Jorge Alberto Lozoya said Kuala Lumpur was the right location for this event as it was the gastronomic capital of South- East Asia.
“The Latin American embassies are taking this opportunity to highlight the diversified culture and cuisine of their people.
“We appreciate the hard work put in by all parties involved in making the festival a fun and colourful event,” said Lozoya at a press conference to announce the festival’s launch.
Plaza Low Yat and Bb Park general manager Michael Lee said Bb Park was acting as the cultural exchange point where the world could come together to share its many different cultures and heritage with the local and expatriate community as well as tourists.
“The fourth Latin American Festival at Bb Park is a living and colourful testament of Bb Park’s celebration of life, art, food and culture.
“We hope visitors at the festival will enjoy this lively event that promises lots of fun and the chance to learn about other cultures.
“There will be a charity bidding to raise funds for the Community Service Centre for the Deaf,” added Lee
Tenants from Plaza Low Yat and Federal Hotels International Group of Hotels has generously agreed to contribute various prizes for the fundraising.
Federal Hotels International is the co-organiser of the festival.
