A THREE-DAY Pandu Puteri 2012 Pekan Nat (day market) has been set up at the Alor Setar Tower premises by the Kedah Girl Guides to raise funds for the movement’s activities at district and state levels.
Its Kedah branch president Datuk Seri Tunku Soraya Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah said the event was held in conjunction with the 80th anniversary of the movement in the state.
“Girl Guides from eight districts in the state have set up 50 stalls to carry out various business activities.
“The project not only enables the association to get funds but also indirectly trains its members to become business-minded on their own accord,” she said yesterday.
“Last year when the same event was organised in Langkawi, the association managed to collect more than RM300,000 and I hope that this year, the amount will be much more since it is being held in the capital,” she told a press conference at the Alor Setar Tower.
Alor Setar Tower general manager Hariyati Tahir said the tower management supported the cause and arranged other side shows like an inter-band competition, stage shows featuring the wayang kulit and well known artistes such as Hail Amir, Zuar XPDC and Ukays for the Pekan Nat.
The fair ends tomorrow and will be officially opened by Malaysian Girl Guides Association royal patron Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Haminah Hamidun tonight at 8pm.
