KUANTAN: After living in a makeshift house for many years, Mohd Ridhuan Wong Abdullah can finally flash a big smile.
With the help of Kuantan MCA, Mohd Ridhuan, 57, had moved into a new low-cost unit in Sungai Soi.
Together with his wife Nurul Ain Lam Abdullah, 39, and two children, aged one and four, the family finally had a decent roof over their heads.
In expressing his gratitude to Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and Kuantan MCA, Mohd Ridhuan said words could not describe how he felt moving into a new house.
“I am extremely grateful to the Regent of Pahang and his consort for helping me to secure a new house after visiting me back in 2009.
“Special thanks also to Kuantan MCA for paying for my rental over the past two years in a rented unit in Lorong Seri Teruntum,” he said.
Prior to that, Mohd Ridhuan had lived in a makeshift wooden house without proper water and electricity supply before his plight came to light.
MCA Division chief Datuk Ti Lian Ker took the initiative to assist the family and found them a rented unit to reside temporarily.
With the assistance and support of Tengku Abdullah, an application was submitted to the authorities before Mohd Ridhuan was given a low-cost unit.
Mohd Ridhuan makes a living collecting recyclable items, earning about RM250 monthly.
Present to help the family to shift into the new house recently were Ti, division Youth chief Andy Chiew and Kampung Tengah MCA branch chairman Ngoh Tian Meng.
Ti said he was glad that the sufferings of Mohd Ridhuan was finally over and that his family could now live in a more proper and conducive environment.
“Besides paying for their rental over the past two years, we also visited the family occasionally to check out their conditions.
“Now, our efforts are worthwhile seeing they are much better off than before,” he said.
Ti said financial assistance was also provided to Mohd Ridhuan’s eldest child who was suffering from heart ailment.
He said the boy’s condition was much better after undergoing treatments and an operation.
