TWELVE Kedah squash players and three coaches received sports equipment sponsored by Sports- match Marketing Sdn Bhd.
Each received a pack bag, two racquets, a pair of shoes, four pairs of socks, head bands, wrist grips and half a dozen shirts for training purposes.
The total cost of the sponsorship is RM28,000 this year.
Last year, 15 players were sponsored and this is the fifth consecutive year the company is sponsoring Kedah players.
The youngest among the twelve recipients was M. Havineshwaran, nine, of SRJK (T) Barathi, Alor Setar.
He received his sponsorship under the fast track sponsorship scheme for being runner-up in the Under-9 category at the Kuala Lumpur International championships last year.
The sponsored players are Nazihah Hanis Abdul Razak, S. Sivasangari, Ong Sai Hong, K. Mivesh Kumar, Hafiz Zhafri Hariss, Aifa Azman, Nurul Izzah Abdul Razak, Chan Yi Wen, M. Havineshwaran, Teh Min Jie, Teh Min En and Aika Azman.
Min Jie, Min En and Aika were not present to receive their equipment as they were at the Bukit Jalil Sports School.
Coaches Cheong Pak Kau, Jrar Aslam and Gan Kooi Hwa also received their equipment.
The items were presented to the players by Kedah Squash Rackets Association chairman Andrew Lim Eng Wah during a dinner specially held to acknowledge the outstanding performances of Kedah players in the 13th MSSM Squash championships held at the Nicol David International Squash courts in Penang from March 12 to March 16.
Lim said the success of the players should be attributed to everyone associated with the games including the parents, coaches and sponsors.
Last year, Kedah won five gold medals. This year, they managed to retain four of the five titles, missing out on the girls’ Under-12 singles.
