Arrest warrant out for Nigerian


MIRI: The magistrate’s court here issued a warrant of arrest for a Nigerian who failed to turn up for his trial.

Ifte Peter Okiemut, who was charged with cheating, failed to appear before Magistrate Gerald Empaling Donald yesterday.

Deputy public prosecutor Shahidah Muslimah Roslan, therefore, applied for the warrant of arrest.

According to the charge sheet, Okiemut was being charged with cheating a local at Maybank’s Boulevard branch here on Jan 16.

He was alleged to have told the victim that a parcel containing some money had arrived from overseas at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and that the victim must deposit RM29,270 into an account of a local as payment for transport charges.

Okiemut was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of between one and 10 years, plus caning or fine.
