CANTONESE movie lovers are in for a good time as the Hong Kong Film Festival 2012 makes its way to Penang for the first time. The festival will be held from March 22 to March 25.
Previously held in the Klang Valley, the event offers moviegoers eight specially selected movies at GSC Gurney Plaza.
Fans of Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau can rejoice as his movie ‘A Simple Life’ has been selected as the opening film for this year’s festival.
Inspired by a true story, the film tells of a heartwarming relationship between a young master of a wealthy family, Roger (played by Lau), and the family servant who raised him, Sister Peach.
Lau’s co-star Deanie Ip plays the role of Sister Peach.
She won the Best Actress Award in the 68th Venice International Film Festival held in Venice, Italy, last year.
In addition to that, the film also won the Best Director (Ann Hui), Best Actress (Ip) and Best Actor (Lau) awards in the 48th Taipei Golden Horse Awards.
Other Hong Kong movies that will be featured during the festival are ‘Big Blue Lake’, ‘Mr & Mrs Single’, ‘Quattro Hong Kong I & II’, ‘Merry-Go-Around’, ‘The Road Less Travelled’, ‘Frozen’ and ‘The Drunkard’.
Admission fee for all movies are RM5, except for ‘A Simple Life’, which will be at prevailing ticket prices as this movie will open in selected cinemas tomorrow.
