BATU PAHAT: Police have arrested a Road Transport Department runner for selling fake medical certificates (MCs) at Jalan Damai here.

Batu Pahat district police chief Asst Comm Din Ahmad said a 27-year-old man was arrested recently following a report lodged by a medical officer from the Batu Pahat hospital alleging that his name was used for the MC which he did not issue.

“After further checks at the runner’s home, we found various fake MCs.

“We also discovered some paraphanelias believed to be used to produce the MCs, including a printer, A4 papers, four doctor stamps and a clinic stamp,” he said.

ACP Din added that the man had been operating for a year and sold at least 100 pieces of fake MCs.

Upon close inspection, he said the stamps were made the name of medical officers from government hospital and clinics here.

“We are tracking down those who had purchased the fake MCs from the man who have been remanded for further investigation.”

In a separate case, police have crippled a lorry theft group with the arrest of six people in the last two weeks.

ACP Din said the thieves, aged 25 and 46 years old, were arrested in several raids between Feb 26 and March 2 at various locations.

Police also seized a motorbike, four lorries, two lorry heads, four lorry engines, grander, hexagon wrenches and other tools.

“We believe that we have solved at least seven cases in Batu Pahat, Simpang Renggam and Kulaijaya with the arrests,” he said.

The group that was identified as Geng Lejang Warek, were active since August last year.
