GEORGE TOWN: Two transvestites and four foreign women were among nine people nabbed during a joint operation by the authorities to flush out vice activities here.
George Town police and Penang Islamic Religious Affairs Department officers nabbed the suspects, aged between 26 and 48, in several areas including Chulia Street, Campbell Street and Penang Road.
The four-hour operation codenamed Ops Noda started at 8pm on Monday.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said besides the transvestites, police also nabbed two Thai women and two Indian nationals.
He said the suspects would be investigated for soliciting for the purpose of prostitution and violation of travel documents.
He added that six others were also detained for documentation purposes.
