AN EFFORT to clean up the scenic Taiping Lake Garden will be held from 7.30am on March 3.
The event called “Gotong-royong Keamanan 2012” is jointly organised by the Taiping Tourist Association and the Taiping Municipal Council in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2012.
Event spokesman Dr Kevin Lazarus said the gotong-royong was initiated to inculcate anti-littering habit among the public.
Dr Lazarus, who is Taiping Zoo director, said he was aware that wild monkeys were also partly to blame for the situation as they often rummage through rubbish bins, in search of food.
“We cannot train the wild monkeys not to litter but it is easier to train human beings to adopt cleanliness as a way of life,” said Dr Lazarus.
