KULAIJAYA: Going down to the ground and always keeping oneself updated with problems and issues faced by the people is the most important attribute of a representative.

Kulai MP Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting said this practice, was of importance when given the responsibility of being an MP and he hoped his replacement would also give priority to the people’s problems.

“Although I have announced more than a year ago that I will not be contesting as a candidate for the next general election, I am determined to continue serving the people until the very last second,” he said during a Chinese New Year open house held at SJK (C) Kulai Besar here recently.

Ong said that even after he retires, he would continue visiting members in the community but as a regular person, instead of an MP.

“Serving as an MP for four years has allowed me to build many friendships with the people here.

“My fondest memories are those that I have shared with them,” he said adding that he also learnt that the people in Kulai were simple and honest.

He explained that during his tenure, he had also worked hard to ensure the economic, educational and development growth for the people there.

Meanwhile, Ong was confident that Kulaijaya would continue to develop rapidly especially in the next few years.

“We already have a large crowd that is attracted to the area due to the Johor Premium Outlets and many other projects have also been scheduled in the area which is also under Iskandar Malaysia,” he said.

He explained that under the Barisan Nasional leadership, the area and the community would continue to prosper.
