PUCHONG MCA visited the newly relocated House of Joy in Bandar Kinrara recently to spread Chinese New Year joy.

The previous House of Joy, located in Taman Tenaga, Puchong, was burnt down in a fire on Dec 30 last year.

The fire, caused by a short-circuit, resulted in 35 children losing their home.

After the fire. the children relocated to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MPSJ) hall for two weeks, until a donor offered to let them live at their current residence free of charge. Since then, they have been receiving assistance from the generous and helpful public, with donations of basic necessities and foodstuff.

The donations received were RM2,000 from the 1Malaysia Community Alliance Foundation, RM5,000 from a donor and an additional RM2,000 from Puchong MCA chairman Datuk Wong Hock Aun.

The children were also given ang pow in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

The money received by the House of Joy will go towards the rebuilding of the House of Joy in Taman Tenaga.

Repairs for the home is estimated to cost RM2mil.

“We hope to raise the funds needed in time to start reconstruction by the middle of this year. Hopefully, we will be able to celebrate Chinese New Year next year in the newly repaired home,” said House of Joy chairman Pastor Tang Chee Sing.

The House of Joy is currently responsible for 60 children, with 15 of them in the Bandar Kinrara home, 25 in a girls’ home, and another 10 in a teenage boys’ and girls’ home respectively.

The children in the House of Joy consist not only of orphans but also those from poor or broken families. They have been through a lot in the course of their young lives.

Many have been abused, either physically or mentally, yet they still manage to retain a lively disposition.

The House of Joy is in dire need of financial assistance from the public for the rebuilding of their burnt home.

Cheques can be addressed to Joy to the World Community Services. For enquiries, contact Pastor Tang at 012-224 6396, Lesley Mah at 019-339 2847 or Cheong at 012-920 0141.
