the Shah Alam City Council is organising an unique landscape design competition for the public aimed at providing the 28 roundabouts in the city with a new image and identity.
Shah Alam mayor Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan said with a new image he hoped that the roundabouts would be transformed into a major attraction in the city.
Among the popular roundabouts are Bulatan Kayangan, Bulatan Megawati, JVC roundabout and UiTM roundabout.
‘“The roundabouts should be the identity of Shah Alam so that they will leave a lasting impression on visitors and tourists.
Jaafar said the council wanted the public including students and professionals to offer ideas through the competition.
“We hope to see a lot of creativeness in the designs without foregoing the green concept of the city.
“The designs could also reflect the city’s culture and tradition,” he said, adding that people often related Shah Alam to roundabouts.
“Roundabouts have been part and parcel of Shah Alam and they have played a big role in ensuring a smooth traffic flow,” he said.
Jaafar said the competition offered a total prize money of RM26,000 with RM6,000, RM4,000 and RM3,000 for the first, second and third winners respectively.
There are also 10 consolation prizes of RM500 each.
The council charged RM150 for the public and consultant category and RM50 for students.
