TWO siblings were among 60 couples, who took part in a mass wedding ceremony held in conjunction with 11.11.11 occasion at the Wat Nikhotaram on Jalan Stadium, Alor Setar, Kedah.
The ceremony organised by the Kedah Buddhist Association started with a group photo and followed by a wedding sermon by a Buddhist monk.
Low Chee Sing, 25, and his sister Soo Hoon, 21, from Taman Saga, said they chose to hold the wedding together.
“My brother asked me and my husband Kee Yong Kooi, 23, to join him and my sister-in-law Ng Shiau Hui, 24, for the mass wedding,” said Soo Hoon.
For sales promoter Shirley Loh, who was celebrating her 35th birthday and wedding day on the same day, said she chose to hold her wedding yesterday as it was her birth date.
“When I heard about the mass wedding, I decided to join in as this would be a happy and memorable occasion for us,” she said.
Cousins Wong Ze Xun, 23, and Wong Mei Lin, 30, who both worked in Kuala Lumpur, said they chose to attend the mass wedding in Alor Setar as their families were here.
Event organiser Lim Heng Wan said the association had organised many such weddings for Buddhist devotees in the state.
He said: “Those wishing to participate in any upcoming mass wedding must register their marriage at the National Registration Department.”
