Music icons honoured in 500th celebration of culture

MALACCA: As part and parcel of the 500th commemoration of local Portuguese culture, history and heritage in the wake of the pioneering Portuguese landing on Malacca shores way back in 1511, the Malacca Portuguese-Eurasian Association (MPEA) honoured one time Malaya’s legendary singing trio the Trez Amigos while ‘the Queen of Mata Cantigas’ Rosalind De Costa and highly-acclaimed composer and accomplished pianist Jimmy Boyle Costa were recognised posthumously.

The name Trez Amigos will not raise excitement or warrant recognition among present day music lovers. But many of those pre-Merdeka born will readily recall and testify that the singing trio was once household name and as good as any of today’s artistes on local entertainment scene.
