Transvestites and gros nabbed

GEORGE TOWN: Sixteen guest relations officers (GROs) and six transvestites said to be involved in vice activities were detained by the police following an operation in the inner city here.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said the transvestites were picked up by the roadside while the GROs were rounded up at two nightspots during the operation codenamed Ops Noda Khas.

“We also brought back two men said to be the nightspots’ caretakers. All of them have since been remanded pending investigations.

“The four-hour raid, which started at 11am on Sunday, involved more than 20 police personnel,” he told a press conference at the district police headquarters in Patani Road here yesterday.

Meanwhile, police are looking for two men to help in investigations into several burglary cases reported in Batu Ferringhi and Sungai Nibong over the past three months.

They are Cheng Ban Seng, 27, whose last known address is Blok 1-2-21, Lintang Minden 2, Taman Utama, Gelugor, Penang and Ng Boon Soon, 38, whose address is 142, Jalan Kacang Pandamaran, Klang.

Those have seen them or know their whereabouts are urged to call the Patani Road police station (04-2181872), or any police station.
