KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu Sepak Takraw Association president Mohd Shapian Ali said recently he is confident the state team will earn a top-eight placing and enter the final of the Super Series Sepak Takraw Championship for the Prime Minister’s Trophy next year.

The players are being trained by former Thai coach Wittaya Bontal and are performing well, he said when contacted by Bernama.

Mohd Shapian said 21 players, including 16 from the team to the Malaysia Games (Sukma), had proven their mettle in the first circuit held in Melaka recently.

He said Terengganu would be without four key players, Mohd Shazwan Hussin, Mohd Masir Manjor Ahmad, Mohd Fadli Roslan and Mohd Hanafiah Dolah, who were selected for the national team during the circuit, he said.

Mohd Shapian said the super series second circuit would be held in Kangar from Sept 22 to 25.

He said 16 teams, including the national team, will be playing off in a total of five circuits to secure the top eight placings for the finals. — Bernama
