THE Salvation Army in Penang will hold a charity food fair during its Open Day on Sept 3 to raise funds for various programmes to help the needy.
The event will be held from 9am to 2pm at its children’s home on Logan Road. There will be numerous food stalls offering a wide variety of delicacies.
The organisation aims to raise enough funds to provide food parcels to about 20 poor families, aid items like disposable diapers for needy stroke victims and banana leaf lunch for the homeless.
If there is sufficient funding, it plans to set up a youth hostel to provide a halfway shelter for those leaving the children’s home but do not have a place to stay yet. The home currently houses about 50 underprivileged school-going children before they join the workforce.
A wheelchair facility is also in the pipeline to lend out wheelchairs to those who need them but could not afford to buy one.
Those interested to support the food fair, be it as a visitor or stall operator, can contact Captain Tan at 04-2290921.
