Rumah Nur Salam, a shelter for underprivileged children in Chow Kit, received visitors from Emirates Airline recently.

The visitors, who brought toys and books for the children, were headed by the airline’s country manager Kavin Martinus and several crew members.

Emirates also presented the shelter with RM2,000 worth of gift vouchers from Giant hypermarket that will go towards the maintenance and grocery expenses of Rumah Nur Salam.

The proceeds were collected from the Emirates’ hole-in-one competition at the recently-concluded Malaysian Open 2011.

“Emirates is constantly thinking of how we can give back towards those less fortunate in our community and we seized the opportunity at the Malaysian Open.

“We’ve had a great time meeting the children and getting to know them,” said Martinus.

Rumah Nur Salam centre manager Ananthi Rajasingam welcomed the Emirates team and assisted in acquainting the children with their guests.

“We would very much like our community to support us not only with donations but with time spent to visit kids so that the community will have a better understanding of the lives of these children. It’s great that the Emirates team wanted to stop by and meet the children, I know the kids were thrilled at the thought of company,” said Ananti.

Rumah Nur Salam, also known as Pusat Akitiviti Kanak-kanak Chow Kit is a shelter for underprivileged children aged from five to 12.

It provides schooling for refugee children as well as after-school activities for children who live around the area. Rumah Nur Salam also offers counselling services for children to help them deal with traumatic issues in their lives.
