Maori culture on show during maiden visit by Kiwi warship


COMBINING fierce facial expressions with chanting, bulging eyes and stamping of the feet, the crew of the HMNZS Te Mana cast an imposing sight while performing the Te Tumu Herenga Waka.

It was the Royal New Zealand Navy’s version of the traditional Maori dance, the Haka, and epitomised its core values of comradeship, commitment and courage.
