THE Islamic Relief Association Malaysia (IRM) successfully raised RM3,000 for some 200 needy folk in Bagan Serai through the ‘1Malaysia Charity Bonanza’.

IRM president Zawahir Abdullah said the amount was achieved through a charity sales of second-hand items such as clothing, books, shoes and toys collected at various train stations recently.

Zawahir added the fund would be used to buy daily necessities for single parents, the disabled and senior citizens.

“There are still many hardcore poor within the community and there is a need to help them,” he said after the launch of the charity sale at the Ipoh KTM station.

He added they succeeded in raising the targeted fund at the fair.

IRM would also organise a similar event at the KL Sentral station soon.

”We have been organising similar charity sales at other stations nationwide where each destination has different passenger volume and buying power,” said Zawahir.

IRM had jointly organised the fundraiser with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB).

”We will continue to raise funds from state to state even after the charity sale is over to encourage passengers to help the needy,” said KTMB SBU Intercity services marketing manager Mohd Noordin Kimi.
