JOHOR BARU: Motorists can now enjoy a smoother drive and face less road congestion when heading to Desaru and Kota Tinggi now that the new RM51.8mil Ulu Tiram flyover has been completed.
The 1.35km flyover was constructed to improve the traffic flow at the Ulu Tiram town junction as the junction was previously unable to accommodate the high traffic.
Businessman Li Ah Keng, 61, said the new flyover would definitely ease the congestion around Ulu Tiram town.
“I have been living here for 40 years and the cars here have been increasing.
“I am sure the flyover would help promote smoother traffic flow,” he said.
Another road user, Sapiehe Anuar, a 51-year-old clerk, said the completion of the flyover meant smoother and shorter travelling time.
“I believe that those travelling to destinations like Desaru and Kota Tinggi would save a lot of travelling time.
“The completion of the flyover was timely as there has been a lot of frustration among road users regarding the issue” he said.
Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) CEO Ismail Ibrahim said the enhanced accessibility was to provide convenience for road users.
“The flyover project started in December 2008 and was completed 3 months ahead of the targeted completion date in June.
“The RM51.8mil flyover was also built to help the population in the vicinity to carry out their daily economic and social activities without worrying about the traffic,” he said, during the opening ceremony of the flyover.
He said the flyover was one of eight infrastructure projects by the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) under the Ninth Malaysian Plan (9MP).
“I also thank road users and the community here for their patience and cooperation during the construction of this interchange, especially on any inconvenience which may have arisen due to the road works,” he said.
