KUCHING: Events Horizon will hold its first charity race aimed at raising funds for the Sarawak Society for Parents of Handicapped Children (Pibakat) here.

The 30km fun race dubbed 20 “Miles to 10,000 Smiles Charity Race 2011” is supported by Pibakat and will be held in conjunction with the Flipflops Beach Carnival 2011.

The carnival is an inaugural three-day, two-night event presented by Events Horizon to provide non-stop beach fun and activities like watersports, music, dance, art and festivities.

The race is open to members of the public aged 16 and above.

It will start and finish at the Damai Puri Resort and Spa.

Participants will have to complete the race that will involve cycling and running.

Events Horizon managing director Jason Chew said the main objective of the race was to raise funds and create public awareness of Pibakat’s aims and objectives.

“Hopefully, members of the public will get to know the charity better through the race and it will promote healthy living,” he said.

Pibakat is a non-profit body registered in November 1990 that provides an avenue for parents of special children to look into the welfare and advocacy of their children.

Registration for the race participants is open until April 11.
