IT has not been raining in Malacca for quite a while, but residents and visitors to the Portuguese Settlement at Ujong Pasir were soaked and drenched to their skin when the Portuguese-Eurasian community celebrated its traditional Intrudo water festival.
The festival’s namesake means ‘introduction’ or ‘coming before’ in Papia Kristang, a 16th century Portuguese dialect.
