MIRI: The printing of Star Sarawak here which started just recently has elicited many different and interesting public reactions.

With the offer of ‘1 price 2 papers - Yours for the taking for just RM1.20’, vendors are convinced that more and more readers would pick up the newspaper in the near future.

Chin Ching Fun (pic), who owns Nova Comm, said the printing of the newspaper locally would boost the readership here.

“Readers can now buy the newspaper earlier than before,” he said, adding that apart from local news, readers could also read more Peninsular Malaysia and international news.

For Hwang, owner of Students’ Corner, the sales of Star Sarawak in her shop used to be rather slow.

“With the printing done here, there will be more readers because people could buy the newspaper before going to work,” she said.

“Now they will have a wider selection to choose from, and Star Sarawak is definitely a bargain.”

Shop assistant Sophia Bululok said the sale of the paper at the Petronas kiosk in Jalan Bulan Sabit was average.

“I think it should have more local news to gain wider readership,” she said.

Afida Sabtu, a receptionist at Parkcity Everly Hotel, said the hotel subscribed five copies of the newspaper for their guests.

“Star Sarawak is usually given on request while other local dailies are available most of the time,” she said.

For reader Benjamin Yeo, a student of Curtin University, the good thing is he can now get the best of what the newspapers have to offer.

“This will definitely widen my knowledge about local happenings as well as those in the peninsula and abroad.

“And since the paper can now be subscribed, it will be more convenient. I no longer need to go out all the time to buy it,” he said, adding that it was worth the money to get both Star Sarawak and The Star for just RM1.20.

Ho Siew Choon, chief of Nursing Services at Columbia Asia Medical Centre here, said the new look of Star Sarawak would boost readership here.

“With the combination of the local and national edition for the price of one, the newspaper is definitely a comprehensive read.
