PADIBERAS Nasional Berhad (Bernas) will continue to pay tithes from the company’s profit to Tabung Baitumal and fulfil its corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Sarawak.
Its board member Datuk Azizan Ayob said Bernas had always abided by the principles of giving business tithes to Tabung Baitumal Sarawak (TBS).
“Bernas has also been giving aid to local welfare and non-governmental organisations as well as helping fire and flood victims in Sarawak as part of our CSR,” he said.
Azizan said this after presenting Bernas’s business tithes for 2009 amounting to RM366,160 to Tabung Baitumal. The tithes were received by Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Kuching.
Bernas also presented donations to several non-governmental organisations.
A sum of RM20,000 was donated to Sarawak Orphans Welfare Organisation (Peryatim), RM5,000 each to Sarawak Ministers and Assistant Ministers’ Wives’ Association (Sabati) and Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (Perkim) and RM50,000 to the Sarawak Youth Volunteer Unit to help flood victims.
