Christmas train display at hotel helps to raise funds

GUESTS stepping into the lobby of the Hilton Petaling Jaya will be delighted to discover the enchanting Hilton Christmas Train chugging along against a North European village until Jan 10.

The handmade and hand assembled miniature train sets help to raise money for selected charities each year by carrying corporate sponsorship logos on its carriages and through donation boxes.

The Hilton Petaling Jaya’s train is the second largest after Seoul and required four weeks to be assembled.

Funds raised through this train display would be channelled to the Beautiful Gate Foundation for the Disabled.

“The Hilton Christmas Train is very close to our heart, as it provides an opportunity for us to work together with various parties, from our corporate clients and suppliers to our valued guests and diners for a worthy cause,” said hotel general manager Chris Ehmann.

“The moving train wagons, billboards and hot air balloons are creative avenues to carry corporate sponsors and it is a unique advertising method.”

Some of the companies that have signed up their support are Golden Screen Cinemas, Suzuki Malaysia Automobile, CSS Food and Beverage, Pestech, Kujuruteraan Astra, Coffex Coffee, Kian Tatt Seafood, Tinggi Press and FDP Marketing.

The train features a dreamy winter setting of a North European Village with royal icing mountains, royal icing tress as tall as 30 inches, traditional buildings made of gingerbread, bridges, billboards, tunnel and hot-air balloons.

Three locomotives that could pull up to six wagons, 30 pieces of 4’x 8’ plywood, 30 metres of wires, 500kg of icing sugar, 500kg of flour, 200kg of butter, 200kg of sugar, 50kg of ginger and 50kg of spices comprise the magnificent display.

The trains are 22 times smaller than an actual train. Despite their tiny size, the detailing is captivating.

The Hilton Christmas Train runs daily from 10am to 10pm at the hotel’s lobby.
