ACADEMICIANS at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) are given opportunities to pursue higher standards of research and development in line with the university’s emphasis on research and innovation.
UiTM academic affairs deputy director Associate Professor Dr Rosita Suhaimi said these opportunities included the means to secure research funding such as the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), Dana Kecemerlangan, e-Science and other schemes available in the public and private sectors.
“Apart from that, seminars, colloquiums, conferences and wokshops are organised from time to time to expose academicians to the latest developments in their research areas.
“To achieve a world standard in research and development, academicians must be quick to grab these opportunities with rigour and the right commitment,” she said when opening a two-day UiTM Conference in Kuching yesterday.
Dr Rosita said problems such as economic development, social inequality, politics and global warming could be addressed more effectively through the integration of different disciplines in research.
She advised academicians to keep themselves abreast with recent developments and address concerns of the community.
“Our goals should be reflected in our commitment to excellence in our academic efforts, including the creation and dissemination of new knowledge and innovations.”
