TWO exciting squash players emerged during the Kota Setar Community Recreation Sports Club (KSCRSC)- Kedah Junior Squash Championships held at the Muadzam Shah Sports Complex.
Both are novices making their debut in competitions. One is Teoh Teik Ming, an eight-year-old boy from Sungai Petani and the other is a seven-year-old girl Shasmithaa from Alor Setar.
Both players are products of the Talent Identification Development programme conducted by the Kedah Squash Racquet Associa-tion.
They showed maturity in skill, shot execution, reflexes and will power throughout the tournament to emerge champions in their respective divisions on Saturday.
The players were placed in seven groups called divisions based on the players skills and playing abilities with the first three winners of each division receiving prizes.
Meanwhile, four boys and four girls will represent the state in the Ong Beng Hee-Nicol David tournament to be held in Penang on Tuesday.
Mivesh Kumar won the boy’s (Division 2) group, beating Ong Sai Hung. Haikel Aiman and Mohd Hafiz Zhafri who reached the semi-final stage will join the champion and runner-up as the state representatives while in the girl’s group (Division 3), Sivasangari emerged champion with Teh Min En as runner-up. Aifa Azman and Candy Ng were the semi-finalists.
In the Open group (Division 1) competition where boys and girls competed against each other, Lim Khai Zhen defeated Ooi Da Zhao in four sets in the final to emerge champion.
