THE Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Penang branch is inviting walking and heritage enthusiasts, well-wishers and its members to participate in its second annual Heritage Walk on Oct 10.
The walk, to be flagged off in front of the Town Hall at the Esplanade, is aimed at raising RM150,000 for the branch to fund its disaster relief and humanitarian projects, and training programmes.
Branch administrator Christine Ung said the 4km walk would take the participants past some of George Town’s famous heritage sites such as the Yeap Kongsi, Poh Hock Seah Temple, Khoo Kongsi and Masjid Melayu Lebuh Acheh.
“The route will also cover the Street of Harmony (where the St George’s Church, Kuan Yin Temple, Sri Mahamariamman Temple and Kapitan Keling Mosque are located),” Ung said.
She said the top prize for a lucky draw to be held during the event would be a motorcycle.
She said the organisers had targeted a participation of 3,000 people.
The registration fee is RM30 and all participants will receive a T-shirt.
Registration forms can be obtained at the MRCS Penang branch office (04-8275678) at 26, Grove Road, Kwong Wah Jit Poh office (04-2612312) at 19, Lebuh Presgrave, MRCS north Seberang Prai chapter office (04-3233323) at 2, Jalan St Mark in Butterworth and Kwong Wah Jit Poh’s Butterworth office (04-3331475) at 4247, Jalan Kampung Benggali. Ung said MRCS also welcomed donations from well-wishers and those giving RM300 and above would be invited to participate in a ‘ribbon-cutting ceremony’ at the start of the walk.
“Donors will also take part in a short VIP Walk around Dewan Sri Pinang ,” she said.
