THE 6th World Eco-Fibre and Textile Forum next month will bring together international delegates to exchange the latest information and research related to textiles and fibres.
Over 300 delegates comprising weavers, artisans, scholars, collectors, gallery owners and members of non-governmental organisations from 25 countries are expected to participate in the three-day forum from Sept 24.
Organised by Society Atelier Sarawak, the forum is themed Nature’s Colour Code — In Basketry and Textiles and will be held at the Sarawak Tourism Complex here.
This year’s event is held in honour of the late Datuk Amar Laila Taib, the Chief Minister’s wife who was the society’s patron.
The forum aims to promote, share and acquire knowledge on the use of natural fibres and dyes, encourage the use of natural and sustainable materials in arts and crafts, and foster cultural exchange through exhibitions and visits.
It also provides a platform for craftsmen and producers of natural materials to develop a marketing network among themselves.
The forum will have nine main sessions featuring over 20 local and international speakers. There will also be an international exhibition and bazaar of eco-fibres and textiles, a pua kumbu weaving competition and exhibition, a gala dinner and an international fashion show.
Prior to the forum, Society Atelier and the Crafts Council of Malaysia will host the World Crafts Council Asia Pacific Assembly and board meeting on Sept 22 to 23.
Post-forum tours to Nanga Sumpa longhouse in Batang Ai, Mulu National Park and Rumah Garie longhouse are available for the participants.
