Star appeal at PD triathlon

JAPAN’s top triathlete Anda Kento will be the star attraction at the Port Dickson International Triathlon (PDIT) at the Avillion Admiral Cove this weekend.

Anda will have representatives from the Hong Kong national squad for company in the PDIT, offering a total purse of RM40,000.

Organising chairman Md Harmain Abu Bakar said about 1,000 participants from about 25 countries, have confirmed participation.

The PDIT, organised for the ninth year, has three events — the sprint triathlon, Olympic Triathlon and kids triathlon — and is expected to be an exciting affair.

“The PDIT has been tagged as one of the best in the region. The presence of renowned triathletes will make the competition more interesting and exciting to watch,’’ said Md Harmain.

The PDIT will kick off tomorrow morning with the kids triathlon followed by the sprint event and will end with the Olympic triathlon on Sunday.

The sprint triathlon entails a 750m swim, 20km cycling and a 5km run while the Olympic triathlon features the same events with the distances doubled.

“This year, an event for children has been added to encourage and enable youngsters to join in the action,” added Md Harmain.

The PDIT is jointly organised by the Negri Sembilan government, state tourism board, Tourism Malaysia, Trisportz Event Management and Avillion Admiral Cove.

The sponsors for the event, sanctioned by the Triathlon Association of Malaysia, are Brooks, 100Plus, Milo, LeRun, PowerBar, Oakley, 2XU and Isuzu.
