EMERGENCY aid from the federal government to be given to residents should be channelled to the state representatives to avoid any overlap, said Rawang assemblyman Gan Pei Nei.
A week ago victims of a storm received aid from both the federal government and Selangor state government.
“I was informed that the federal government allocates RM500,000 a year to the representative here but the money need to be used wisely instead of giving it twice.
“If the aid is distributed by the state, there should be a list of those recipients and we can provide it to the federal government.
Gan, who visited the storm victims together with Selayang MP William Leong in Taman Velox, Rawang, gave RM200 to 52 families.
The Rawang assemblyman service centre also allocated funds to repair the roofs of the affected houses.
There are 29 houses and one surau in Taman Velox, 12 houses in Kampung Sungai Bakau and Sungai Bakau Tambahan and a shop near Kundang that were damaged by the storm.
“If the federal government wants to help they must channel the money to the Welfare Department or the welfare officer in charge. The welfare department officer is also the Natural Disaster committee chairman,’’ she said.
Selayang constituency development chairman Datuk Tang See Hang also visited the victims in Lorong Velox 12.
He said they would talk to the Implementation and Coordination Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department and suggested that each family receive RM300 each.
“If houses were badly damaged, we would forward the report to get more aid,’’ he said.
