ALL the local councils in Selangor will be involved in the month-long Futsal Tour in conjunction with the FIFA World Cup.
Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) deputy chairman Amirudin Shari said all 12 local councils would be hosting a round of the tour.
“Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) had organised the first round on May 23. The next round will be hosted by the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) and Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) on June 5.
“This is the second season for the tour but this year it is a unique affair. A total of 32 teams, just like in the World Cup, will be taking part in each round,’’ said Amirudin at the launch of the futsal tour in Shah Alam recently.
The tour, offering a total cash purse of RM40,000, is organised by the Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) Holdings and Selangor Youth Secretariat with support from the State government.
Amirudin said the tour was an excellent opportunity for youngsters to be involved in a healthy activity.
“The competition will be played outdoors instead of indoors. We expect the public to come and watch the exciting matches. The competition will also be a platform to identify new talents,’’ he added.
The grand finals, for the top two teams in each round as well as eight invited teams, will be a two-day affair at the Mini Stadium in Shah Alam on July 3 and 4.
The champions will receive RM4,000, the runners-up RM3,000 and the third and fourth-placved teams will get RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively.
