THE Puchong Jaya Yee Lan Festival Association donated RM3,708 to the House of Joy recently.
The money was raised during the association’s Guan Yin’s birthday celebration on April 3, where a vegetarian banquet was held.
Organising committee chairman Wong Gee Leong said the event attracted a crowd of 300 and the association was considering to organise more similar events in the future.
Association chairman Billy Koh added that the funds raised during their annual Hungry Ghost Festival celebration were always channelled to charity, after deducting the installment for their office in Bandar Puchong Jaya.
“We help the poor regardless of faith and race,” he said.
Dr Kow Cheong Wei, who is the association’s adviser as well as Puchong Chinese Association Liason Committee chairman, said the association set a good example by organising events that benefited the society.
“Apart from this event, it contributes to schools’ donation drives and other charitable causes.
“Koh also donated ang pow worth RM3,800 received during his housewarming party to Sau Seng Lam Dialysis and Stroke Rehabilitation Centre in Puchong,” he said.
House of Joy boys’ home person-in-charge Moses Chat said the money would be used to buy a van to ferry the children to schools and other activities. The boys’ home is located in Taman Tenaga while the girls’ home is at Taman Pak Siong, both in Puchong.
