The MercedesTrophy returns with greater swings at its annual competition this year.
This year marks a significant milestone for Mercedes-Benz as the MercedesTrophy will celebrate its 20th anniversary.
The tournament for the Malaysian Section will kick-off on April 21 at the Sutera Harbour Marina Golf & Country Club Sabah.
This international series is played worldwide in a three-stage system — the Malaysian Final, the Asian Final and the World Final.
The series starts with invitation tournaments at a local level where Mercedes-Benz owners can qualify for the national final and subsequently the regional final.
The climax of the series is then the world final, which for years has been held traditionally in and around Stuttgart, Germany - the birthplace of the car, where both the best individual players and the best team are decided during a three-day tournament.
The World Final itself is not only a sports highlight but it also captivates people with its unique atmosphere.
“For more than 20 years, the MercedesTrophy has become increasingly successful internationally in more than 50 countries.
“Following the overwhelming response from our nationwide qualifying rounds held last year, this year’s competition has now been increased and extended to eight qualifying rounds,” said Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd president and chief executive officer Peter Honegg.
“To celebrate our 20th anniversary, we are also conducting a junior golf clinic for Mercedes-Benz customers’ children aged between seven and 15 where professional golfers from our partner Callaway and Crestlink will be on hand to teach the basics of the game and share some tips with the junior golfers, ” added Honegg.
The top three winners from each category of each qualifying round will compete in the Malaysian Final on June 23 at The Saujana Golf & Country Club in Selangor.
The top two winners in each handicap categories for Men’s Categories and the winner of the Women’s Category at the Malaysian Selection will qualify for the Asian Final, with an all expenses paid trip to Sanctuary Cove, Australia, from Aug 18 to 20.
The winner of each handicap category at the Asian Final will qualify for the World Final in Stuttgart, Germany from Sept 22 to 28.
“This year, apart from customers of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s authorised dealers who are eligible for Customers’ category,” we are also inviting Mercedes-Benz owners who take part in the MercedesTrophy to nominate their friends to join us at this event under the “Guests’ category with different sets of prizes and rules,” said Honegg.
Once again, players who succeed to enter a hole-in-one for 2 Par 3 holes will stand a chance to win a Mercedes-Benz E200 worth RM366,888.
There are also other prizes to be won from the event’s marketing partners such as Crestlink, Callaway, The Edge, Golf Digest, Epos and 100PLUS.
Mercedes-Benz owners will have to submit an entry form and pay a fee of RM350 per person to Mercedes-Benz Malaysia before April 19 for the first qualifying round in Sabah and April 26 for remaining qualifying rounds.
